Hmmmmm...and not to mention a part of the reason of the skimming over of Spain's badassery is due to Latin America's absence from the series (except for Cuba) .... Maybe one day, there can be a Hetalia spin off with Spain, Portugal maybe even france and their colonies!!! Then it could show Spain in all his gory glory (see what I did there?) Though...I guess part of the reason for our absence is because it would show a side of Spain that was truly terrifying and people used to the cheerful "oblivious" side, will never see him the same again. But regardless...it happened. And that's part of Spain too and shouldn't be ignored...

Awwwww....I agree. Spain was (and IS, dammit) a badass, but he's learned a lot from all the constant rebellions: Portugal, the Netherlands, and his own Latin American colonies...in the end, empires aren't meant to last. The thing that pisses me off about the Hetalia manga (and to some extent) the anime is that although he still gets his moments of awesome...they kinda portray Spain as something of a "has-been" and make it seem like his empire was built and fell in a day, when he was undoubtably the best for at least three centuries and after which was still a force to be recokened with until the last of his colonies left in the late 1800s. England's "defeat" (really, it was mostly the bad weather) of his armada was avenged when Spain then defeated England's Counter Armada! And that whole pirate thing was done by Spain to England, France, and the Netherlands too! SPain's island colonies were encouraged by Spain to attack non-Spanish ships! (I'm Puerto Rican and our pirates were known for this) Well...sorry for my rant but Spain is so much more of a badass than the series gave him credit for and we only saw a tiny part of that....Stupid Hetalia....if it continues, I hope they do it right this time!
